The largest city of Kentucky, in the north-central part of the state on the Ohio River west of Lexington. On the site of a fort built by George Rogers Clark in 1778, it is a port of entry and a major industrial, financial, and marketing center. after the merger of Jefferson county and the city of Louisville it became the 16th largest city in USA.
